How do Self-Ligating Braces Work?

The unique benefits of self-ligating braces come from the advanced bracket technology. Self-ligating braces use a specialized spring ‘door’ or clip that holds the archwire to the bracket. (With traditional braces, an elastic tie binds the archwire to the bracket.) Self-ligating brackets simply clip into the archwire.

This is how the teeth are able to move independently! Although the brackets are still cemented to the teeth, the archwires aren’t tied to each bracket. The archwires can move freely, accommodating each tooth as it shifts into alignment.

Self-ligating braces don’t require adjustment appointments, because there are no elastic ties to replace. You only have to visit your orthodontist every few weeks for us to assess your progress and ensure that you’re on the most efficient track to a gorgeous smile!
